It is a drawback that most of the students face difficulty in learning English as well as in speaking and writing up to secondary level. They are not much fluent or accurate. This happens due to several reasons including lack of interest and/or the burden of a foreign language. The most important of all reasons is the method of interaction between students and teachers that is considered as not much appropriate. Teaching is not a mild case or a thing that can be neglected. It is a need to find a better method of teaching to improve the scenario of Teaching English at the secondary level. The most widely used methods are Grammar Translation Method (GTM) and Direct Method (DM). This study particularly focused on the evaluation of these methods in order to assess the suitable method of teaching English and improves the proficiency of students in the part of two major skills, i.e. writing and speaking. The survey method was adopted to conduct the study using a questionnaire. A total of 20 Teachers from public and private schools were selected to collect the data. The findings of results based on the questionnaire revealed that DM is a mostly favored method of teaching a language.
